Gmail Rolls Out AI-Driven Contextual Smart Replies For Detailed Responses
Google is introducing a new feature in its Gmail app, known as contextual smart replies, designed to enhance the way users respond to emails. This AI-powered tool allows users to generate more detailed replies based on the content of their email conversations. While Smart Reply, launched in 2017, offered simple one-line responses, this new feature takes it further by delivering more contextually relevant replies.
The AI technology analyzes the content of an entire email thread and suggests multiple responses that fit the conversation. However, it’s important to note that this Gemini-powered feature is available exclusively to Google Workspace subscribers.
When replying to an email, users will see various reply suggestions at the bottom of the screen in a carousel format. Each suggestion comes with a unique tone and style, and users can preview a portion of the message by long-pressing on it. Tapping on a suggestion generates a detailed response, complete with a greeting, multiple paragraphs, and a closing, which can then be edited or expanded before sending.
