Xbox teases next Gears of War E-Day update – fans won't have to wait long

Newspoint

Xbox has revealed when it will next deliver a deep dive into the rest of its line-up for 2026, with Gears of War E-Day set to headline a showcase later this summer.

CEO Asha Sharma announced the Xbox Games Showcase 2026 over on X with a post explaining the event will take place on June 7, 2026 at 6pm BST . That’s two days after Geoff Keighley’s Summer Games Fest, which is usually the biggest reveal showcase event of the summer.

As for what we can expect to see there, Gears of War E-Day was name dropped as the headline feature. This prequel to the original Gears of War was announced back in June 2024 and is currently in development at The Coalition.

Gears of War E-Day will pick up with the beloved character of Marcus Phoenix and battle buddy Dom Santiago as they fight their way through the initial emergence of the locust horde.

There’s no further information on what other games we can expect to see. A blog post on Xbox Wire provides a few additional details, clarifying: “We’ll begin the day with our annual Xbox Games Showcase, including first gameplay looks and huge news on upcoming titles from our first-party studios across the Xbox family, as well as our third-party partners around the globe – from the biggest franchises to soon-to-be indie darlings.”

We’d expect this year’s Call of Duty game to make an appearance as this would roughly keep in-line with Activision’s marketing campaigns of the past.

2026’s Call of Duty is rumoured to be Modern Warfare 4, in development at Infinity Ward.

The Xbox Games Showcase will be a digital event streamed on the publisher’s social channels, but Sharma also announced that an in-person event will be taking place too.

“In my first month, I heard clearly that our community values Xbox FanFest,” the newly appointed CEO said. “As part of the return of Xbox, we made the decision to bring it back to LA to recognise the players who’ve been with us over the years.”

The event will be in celebration of Xbox’s 25th anniversary.

There’s currently no word on when Xbox FanFest will take place, but gamers can enter a raffle to win free tickets over on the Xbox Wire site.
