Baloch Leader Akhtar Mengal Stuns Pakistan, Says Balochistan's 'Separation Is The Only Option Now'

Akhtar Mengal has triggered a fresh political storm in Pakistan by openly advocating separation for Balochistan. Addressing a prominent conference in Lahore, he said coexistence with Pakistan was no longer viable and suggested peaceful separation as the only option left. Mengal criticized Islamabad for unfulfilled commitments since accession, alleged enforced disappearances and heavy handed security measures, and dismissed claims that unrest is driven solely by foreign interference. His reference to Bangladesh’s 1971 slogan underscored the gravity of his message. The move was followed by his resignation from the National Assembly, escalating tensions between Baloch leadership and the federal government.
