Bangladesh PM Hasina Calls Elections Rigged, Urges Credible Fresh Polls, Attacks Yunus
The Bangladesh Awami League has strongly condemned the country’s parliamentary elections, calling them a “well-planned farce” and claiming they were conducted without proper voter participation. The party alleged that the elections, held without its involvement, violated democratic norms and the Constitution. In a statement on its X handle, Awami League thanked citizens, including women, minority communities, and supporters, for rejecting what it described as a “voter-less” process. The party also highlighted instances of intimidation, arrests, and attacks against its voters and supporters in the lead-up to polling. Raising concerns about unusually high voter numbers in some constituencies, the Awami League said the elections lacked credibility and the results appeared manipulated.
