Washington DC | Commenting on External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s visit to the United States, South Asia analyst Michael Kugelman said the timing reflects a more optimistic phase in India-US relations. He observed that high-level interactions between the two countries have often been overshadowed by unresolved challenges, but the visit coinciding with a key trade agreement indicates renewed alignment between New Delhi and Washington. Kugelman said the deal is expected to bring stability to bilateral ties and could help revive plans for the long-delayed Quad Leaders’ Summit. He added that, should the summit take place, US President Donald Trump may travel to India, using the occasion to underscore the significance of the trade deal and broader strategic cooperation.
