‘Embarrassed Himself’: Gaurav Gogoi Slams Assam CM Himanta Sarma Over ‘Pakistan Links’ Allegation

The political war of words in Assam escalated after Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi hit back at Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over allegations of Pakistan links. Gogoi termed the CM’s lengthy press conference a “superflop” and accused Sarma of trying to deflect attention from questions over his family’s alleged ownership of nearly 4,000 acres of land in the state. Sarma, addressing the media ahead of the Assam assembly polls, alleged a “deeper connection” between Gogoi, his British wife Elizabeth Colburn and a Pakistani national, claiming the issue involved national security. He raised questions about alleged work links with Pakistan, multiple visits and passport issues. Responding, Gogoi said Sarma failed to convince journalists and had embarrassed himself on the national stage, adding that the people of Assam were capable of seeing through such claims.
