Former Assam Congress Chief Bhupen Borah to Join BJP, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Confirms

Guwahati, Assam: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that Bhupen Borah, the last recognised Hindu leader in Congress, will join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on 22nd February. Dilip Saikia will coordinate the details of the induction. Several other Congress leaders from Guwahati and North Lakhimpur are also expected to join. CM Sarma said that Borah will be accorded full respect and dignity, calling his joining a “homecoming” as BJP has many members like him whose families did not hold high offices. The move has been approved by BJP National President Nitin Nabin and highlights the party’s strategy to strengthen its presence in Assam.
