‘Historic’: US Envoy Gor Hails Micron’s Chip Plant Launch In Guj, Cites Modi-Trump Friendship

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor termed the inauguration of Micron’s semiconductor assembly and test facility a historic moment, calling the $2.75 billion investment a major step in strengthening U.S.-India ties. He said the project reflects cooperation in technology, commerce and strategic sectors under the U.S.-India Compact launched by PM Modi and President Trump. Gor highlighted the TRUST initiative and stressed the importance of building resilient semiconductor supply chains in trusted locations, with Gujarat emerging as a key hub. Noting that 10 semiconductor projects worth $19 billion are underway in India, he described the facility as a symbol of American technology leadership working alongside Indian manufacturing excellence to support global supply chains and long-term shared growth.
