India-US Trade Deal: Moscow Contradicts Trump's Claim On New Delhi 'Stopping' Russian Oil Imports
Russia has rejected US claims that India plans to stop importing Russian oil, saying it has received no official notice from New Delhi. This comes after former President Donald Trump stated that Prime Minister Modi agreed to halt Russian crude purchases as part of a broader India–US trade deal, which also reduces US tariffs on Indian goods to 18 per cent and encourages oil imports from the US and potentially Venezuela. Prime Minister Modi confirmed the tariff reduction but made no mention of Russian oil. Industry experts note that Indian refiners already have contracts for Russian crude arriving in February and March, and the government has not directed any stoppage, meaning any change in supply would require time to meet existing obligations.
