Indian Navy’s New Hunter, INS Anjadip To Targets Submarines Close To Coast

The Indian Navy will soon commission INS Anjadip, the third ship of the Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) programme — a key step in rebuilding India’s coastal anti-submarine capability. India’s western coastline presents a unique challenge for submarine detection. Shallow waters generate sonar interference, making conventional anti-submarine platforms less effective. This has driven the Navy to develop specialised shallow-water submarine hunters designed specifically for littoral environments. With indigenous sonar, lightweight torpedoes, anti-submarine rockets and over 80% indigenous content, INS Anjadip will help counter the growing submarine capabilities of regional adversaries and close a long-standing gap in India’s maritime defence architecture.
