'Is That Entirely Fair And Democratic? Shashi Tharoor Questions SIR’s Role In BJP’s Massive Victory

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor questioned whether the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls influenced the BJP’s victory in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. He alleged that large-scale voter deletions and delays in appeal processes may have prevented lakhs of genuine voters from casting ballots. Tharoor pointed to the BJP’s 30-lakh victory margin and asked whether the process was entirely fair and democratic. He also suggested that the voter revision exercise may have politically hurt the CPI(M) in Kerala while indirectly benefiting Congress.
