NGT Acts On Noida Techie Drowning, Points To Serious Environmental Lapses

The National Green Tribunal has taken suo motu cognisance of the death of a 27-year-old software engineer who drowned after his SUV plunged into a water-filled trench at a commercial site in Greater Noida. Calling the incident a result of serious environmental and regulatory lapses, the tribunal noted that the land had been allotted for a private mall but had turned into a pond over the years due to unchecked rainwater accumulation and wastewater discharge from nearby housing societies. The NGT observed that the lack of safety measures and oversight raised serious concerns and has sought explanations from the authorities responsible for environmental compliance and site safety.
