Norway PM Questions World War II-Era UNSC, Echoes India’s Demand For Reform And Global South Voice
A sharp question from Europe has reignited the global debate on United Nations reform. Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre has openly echoed India’s long-held demand to overhaul the UN Security Council. Speaking in Oslo, Støre asked how countries of the Global South, including India, can justify a Security Council controlled by World War II victors. His remarks strike at the heart of a legitimacy crisis facing the UN. India has repeatedly argued that a 1945 structure cannot reflect 21st century realities. With wars raging and global power shifting, even the UN chief has admitted institutions are stuck in the past. As the G4 nations push for expansion and new permanent seats, India warns that delaying reform is no longer procedural. It is dangerous. And the world, New Delhi insists, cannot afford that delay anymore.
