SC Asks Mamata To File Fresh Pleas Regarding Victory Margin Being Less Than SIR Deletions
The Supreme Court has asked former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to file a fresh plea regarding allegations linked to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The issue pertains to claims that in several constituencies, victory margins were lower than the number of votes deleted during the revision process. A bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi heard submissions from TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee, who cited discrepancies in 31 seats. The Election Commission opposed the arguments, stating that such issues should be raised through election petitions. The SIR exercise reportedly removed nearly 91 lakh names from voter lists.
