Jio Overhauls Feature Phone Plans: New "4G Feature Phone" Category Debuts After TRAI Push

Newspoint

In a major strategic shift, Reliance Jio has restructured its recharge portfolio for 4G keypad and JioPhone users. Following transparency concerns raised by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the company has consolidated its device-specific offerings into a single, streamlined category: "4G Feature Phone Plans."

This move aims to simplify the recharge experience, replacing the previous fragmented system with a clearer, more consistent pricing structure for all 4G feature phone owners.

Why the Change? The TRAI Factor

The overhaul comes after TRAI flagged a lack of transparency regarding plans tied to specific devices. In response, Jio has:

  • Renamed the existing "JioBharat" plans.

  • Retired the exclusive "JioPhone" plan category.

  • Merged services to ensure all feature phone users access the same benefits under one roof.

The New Lineup: From Monthly to Annual Options

  • Special Offer: A ₹21 plan with 4-day validity is now available exclusively for customers purchasing a new 4G feature phone.

Data Boosters & Add-ons

For users who exhaust their daily limits, Jio has introduced flexible data top-ups:

  • Pocket-Friendly: ₹26 for 2GB and ₹62 for 6GB of extra data.

  • Daily Boosters: Dedicated add-on packs priced at ₹86, ₹122, and ₹182 are available for those requiring consistent high-speed access throughout their billing cycle.

The Bottom Line

While the entry point has seen a slight increase with the removal of the ₹91 plan, the new ₹123 base plan

remains one of the most affordable ways to stay connected in the Indian market. By aligning with TRAI’s transparency guidelines, Jio is ensuring that its millions of feature phone users have a straightforward path to unlimited calling and 4G data.
