Jr NTR Failed To Match Tiger's Swag! Here's Why Telugu Star Was Underwhelming In War 2

When Jr. NTR was announced opposite Hrithik Roshan, my immediate thought was, “Oh! At least we’ll get an explosive dance-off between the two.” Unfortunately, after watching the film, that dance number was the only memorable takeaway from Jr. NTR’s character.

Hrithik–Tiger In War Vs. Hrithik–Jr. Ntr In War 2

One of the biggest reasons War worked so well was the electric chemistry between Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff. Tiger’s character was a devoted disciple, constantly seeking validation from Hrithik’s seasoned spy, while Hrithik played the stern mentor who kept testing his protégé.

This dynamic gave us light-hearted banter, mutual respect, and a layered relationship. So, when the final twist revealed Tiger’s fate, we felt genuine empathy for Hrithik’s character, who suddenly became vulnerable; something we never expected from him.

In War 2, however, that spark was missing. Jr NTR’s character seemed to prioritise style over substance, with the writing focusing heavily on his screen presence rather than giving him a well-rounded backstory. His much-hyped entry turned out to be one of the weakest introductions in the entire spy universe.

Interestingly, in a few moments, especially right before “Janaabe Aali”, I could feel a se*ual tension between Hrithik and Jr. NTR that could almost be read, though it was never explored (maybe I was reading more into it).

(Spoilers ahead) In War, Tiger Shroff’s character’s martyrdom acted as a powerful emotional trigger for Hrithik, driving him into the final battle. In contrast, War 2

seemed hesitant to take that risk.

It felt as if the makers feared backlash from Jr. NTR’s massive fanbase, so instead of giving his arc a dramatic and a more satisfying conclusion, they chose the safest route, keeping him alive and conveniently uniting him with Hrithik in the end to complete the rest of the mission. Too neat, too safe and ultimately, too convenient.

Though Jr. NTR delivered a commendable performance, I genuinely feel Ayan Mukerji failed to tap into his full potential and he could have been utilised far more effectively in the film.

Going by the climax, it’s clear we’ll be seeing more of Jr. NTR in the future. instalments of the spy universe, and I can only hope that next time his character is given greater depth and stronger narrative weight.
