A touching moment from Rishikesh has taken over social media, showing a fearless German Shepherd spring into action to protect children from a stray dog. The dramatic clip, widely shared online, captures the loyal pet leaping from a balcony to chase the stray away, ensuring the kids’ safety.
The video opens with the German Shepherd peering over a balcony wall, keeping a watchful eye on the street below. A group of children runs past, unaware of the stray dog trailing them. In a split second, the alert canine vaults over the wall, lands on the ground, and charges at the stray, driving it away from the children.

Netizens quickly dubbed the canine “ Dogesh Bhai ” and flooded the comments with admiration. Messages ranged from “Dogs are more loyal than humans, it’s proven again" to “Well done, Dogesh Bhai. Dogesh Bhai showed great loyalty and saved the children." Some even likened the pet to a “a silent guardian, a watchful protector."
One user marvelled at the leap itself: “That leap though…..at such heights too. Looked like that could’ve hurt if it wasn’t most likely some trained dog retired, maybe… Regardless absolutely honourable behaviour and such a blessing to witness."
A bench of Justices J.B. Pardiwala and R. Mahadevan instructed authorities to set up shelters capable of housing around 5,000 strays, with adequate staff for sterilisation and vaccination drives. Once moved, the court made it clear, these dogs must not be released back into streets, residential colonies, or public places.
Calling for decisive action, the bench remarked, “We need to pick up round up with whatever means to ensure dog free locality, and that’s how children and the aged will feel safe. Have you seen the classic ‘Good, Bad and the Ugly’ – when you want to shoot, shoot, don’t talk. It’s not the time to talk but act,"
The judges emphasised that, “Infants and young children, not at any cost, should not fall prey to rabies. The action should inspire confidence that they can move freely without fear of being bitten by stray dogs. No sentiments should be involved."
The court also issued a strong caution that any person or organisation obstructing the stray dog capture and sheltering process will face strict legal consequences.
