A notification issued by Chief Secretary Ravi Kota stated that the Governor, exercising his authority under clause (1) of Article 164 of the Indian Constitution, has appointed Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma as the Chief Minister.

The swearing-in ceremony for Sarma is scheduled for May 12 at 11:40 AM at the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara.

The NDA coalition, which includes the BJP, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), and Bodoland People's Front (BPF), achieved a remarkable victory in the assembly elections, securing 102 out of 126 seats. The BJP alone won 82 seats, while AGP and BPF each claimed 10 seats.

Sarma, who first assumed the role of Chief Minister in 2021, is notable for being the first non-Congress leader in Assam to serve two consecutive terms.
