The recent Asian Youth Games witnessed Indian athletes making remarkable strides, securing a historic total of 48 medals, which includes 13 gold, 18 silver, and 17 bronze medals. This achievement marks India's highest medal tally at the event, held in Manama, Bahrain, after a 12-year break since the last edition.

Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya took to social media platform X to express his pride, stating, "The Modi Government's consistent dedication to sports over the past 11 years has enabled our athletes to excel and bring honor to Bharat globally."


Historical Performance Comparison

In the 2013 Asian Youth Games, Indian athletes participated under the Olympic flag, achieving a total of 14 medals, which included three golds, four silvers, and seven bronzes. In contrast, during the 2009 edition, India managed to secure 11 medals, comprising five golds, three silvers, and three bronzes.


Final Day Highlights and Athlete Participation

The Indian contingent consisted of 222 athletes, with 119 women and 103 men. Athletics had the largest representation with 31 participants. On the final day of the Games, Indian competitors excelled, winning 15 medals, including seven golds. Notably, boxers claimed four gold medals, while beach wrestlers topped three podiums. Other sports like kabaddi, handball, and boxing also contributed to the medal tally, with ten athletes competing in taekwondo, wrestling, and weightlifting.
