Jimmy Kimmel's scathing Donald Trump takedown as he fights tears in ABC return
Jimmy Kimmel returned to air, and struggled to hold back his tears as he addressed Charlie Kirk and Donald Trump. On Tuesday, September 23, Kimmel made his grand return to the small screen after his late-night talk show was briefly suspended. The chat show presenter was pulled from the airwaves following contentious comments he made after the death of conservative political commentator Charlie Kirk, which he addressed during his opening monologue on his comeback episode.
"I've been thinking a lot about what I have to say and do tonight," he began after his suspension wrapped and he made a comeback.
"The truth is I don't think what I have to say is going to make much of a difference. If you like me, you like me, if you don't, you don't, I don't have any illusions about changing anyone's mind", reports the Mirror.
Kimmel added with teary eyes: "But I do want to make something clear because it's important to me as a human. And that is that you do understand that it was never my intention to make light of the murder of the young man. I don't think there is anything funny about it."
He also hit out at Trump, as he said: "You cared enough about my show to make your voices heard so mine can be heard."
He added: "Our leader celebrates people losing their livelihoods because he can't take a joke," before adding Trump openly rooting for people to lose their jobs is "un-American" and "dangerous".
Jimmy concluded: "He did his best to cancel me, instead he forced millions of people to watch the show. That backfired bigly. He might have to release the Epstein files to distract us from this now."
In a statement, they said, "Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country."
They continued, "We made this decision because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return to the show on Tuesday."
This all originated from Kimmel's opening monologue on his programme that aired Sept. 15.
During the episode, he declared that President Donald Trump's supporters were "desperately trying to characterise" 22-year-old shooter Tyler Robinson, who killed Charlie as "anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it."
Trump hit back on social media, saying: "I can't believe ABC Fake News gave Jimmy Kimmel his job back.
"The White House was told by ABC that his Show was cancelled! Something happened between then and now because his audience is GONE, and his 'talent' was never there."
"I think we're going to test ABC out on this," Trump added.
"Let's see how we do. Last time I went after them, they gave me $16 Million Dollars. This one sounds even more lucrative."
