Michigan: Several individuals were shot at a Mormon church in Grand Blanc, Michigan, on Sunday morning. The incident occurred at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, approximately 50 miles north of Detroit. Local police confirmed that the shooter is “down,” and there is no ongoing threat to the public. However, the church building is currently on fire.

Authorities have not released information regarding the number of victims or the extent of their injuries. A reunification center has been established near the church for those affected by the incident. The FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) agents are en route to assist with the investigation.

This shooting follows another tragic incident in Southport, North Carolina, where a man opened fire from a boat into a crowd, resulting in three deaths and five injuries. The suspect, identified as Nigel Edge, has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of murder and attempted murder.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer expressed her condolences, stating, “Violence anywhere, especially in a place of worship, is unacceptable.” The community of Grand Blanc, with a population of approximately 8,000, is in shock as authorities continue their investigation into the shooting and fire.

US Attorney General Pamela Bindi posted on X: “I am receiving briefings about what appears to be a horrific shooting and fire at an LDS church in Grand Blanc, Michigan.”

She said FBI and ATF agents were enroute. “Such violence at a place of worship is heartbreaking and chilling. Please join me in praying for the victims of this terrible tragedy,” she further wrote.
