Tragic Accident Claims Lives of Parents, Leaves Children Injured in Bargarh
Bargarh: A tragic incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when a speeding Hyva dumper struck a scooter, resulting in the death of a couple and injuries to their two young sons near Gurudwara Square in Bargarh town.
The victims have been identified as Harekrushna Dunguri, aged 36, and his 30-year-old wife, Kuntala, both residents of Ambabhona block.
While riding their scooter (OD 17 AF 1757) with their children, they were reportedly hit from behind by a dumper truck (OD 17 AC 2894), which dragged the scooter beneath its wheels, leading to the couple's immediate death. Bystanders quickly came to the aid of the injured children, transporting them to the district headquarters hospital in Bargarh.
In the aftermath of the accident, furious locals blocked the road, demanding accountability for the driver. Authorities intervened, leading to the truck's seizure and the driver's detention for further investigation. The blockade was eventually lifted.
Harekrushna was known to be suffering from paralysis, while Kuntala served as a sanitation worker at the Ambabhona tehsil office.
With both parents gone, community members are calling on local authorities to provide support and rehabilitation for the two orphaned children.
