WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus recently shared insights into a contentious episode from her wrestling career, revealing the repercussions she faced for declining to participate in a storyline that involved kissing another woman.
During an appearance on the podcast Pod Meets World, the seven-time Women's Champion was questioned about whether she had ever rejected creative proposals. Stratus mentioned that she frequently discouraged certain concepts and offered alternative solutions. However, one specific request was a line she was not willing to cross.
She recounted, "There was a moment when I firmly said 'No.' It involved kissing another girl, and I thought, 'Hmm, I don’t get it. No, I don’t want to do that. I don’t believe my character would act that way, nor would I.' So, I opted out of that situation."
Her decision came with consequences; Stratus revealed that WWE promptly stripped her of her championship title, signaling that her refusal had not gone unnoticed. "I was stripped of the belt right away. It was clear that this was a punishment for my choice. It was quite shocking," she remarked.
Stratus also faced external pressures during her time with WWE. She turned down multiple offers from Playboy, despite Vince McMahon's persistent attempts to persuade her. She stood her ground, expressing disinterest in posing, even when it was suggested that the opportunity might be given to someone else.
"Vince tried to convince me it was a fantastic opportunity, but I remained resolute," Stratus stated. Her refusal underscored her commitment to maintaining her image and career trajectory, even in the face of pressure from the company's top leadership.
