Use a small, soft-bristled toothbrush designed for infants. A gentle brush prevents gum irritation and makes brushing comfortable for your baby.
Brush your baby’s teeth twice a day – once in the morning and once before bed. Consistency helps form healthy habits from the start.
For babies under 3 years, use a rice-grain-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste. This is enough to protect teeth without risking overexposure to fluoride.
Gently brush in small circles on both teeth and gums. Tilt the brush to reach the gum line and clean all surfaces, including the back teeth.
Don’t use adult toothpaste or excessive amounts. Avoid letting your baby fall asleep with a bottle of milk or juice, as this can cause early tooth decay.
Let your baby hold the toothbrush and explore it. Turn brushing into a playful routine to make them comfortable and cooperative.
Schedule the first dental visit by age 1. Early checkups detect potential problems and provide guidance for ongoing oral care.
Limit sugary snacks and drinks. Offer water between meals and encourage chewing healthy foods to strengthen teeth and gums naturally.
