Entertainment: Jimmy Shergill wanted to work with Gulzar as an assistant director!

Jimmy Sheirgill: Actor Jimmy Sheirgill will complete three decades in the film industry in 2026. The dashing and handsome actor made his Bollywood debut in 1996 with Gulzar's film 'Maachis'. After this, he was seen in 'Jahan Tum Le Chalo' in 1999, but he got recognition from Aditya Chopra's film 'Mohabbatein'.

Shahrukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Amitabh Bachchan were in the lead roles in this film. Recently Jimmy Shergill has remembered his days of struggle in the industry.

Jimmy Sheirgill told how much fee he got for his first 'Maachis'. Along with this, he revealed that till he got 'Mohabbatein', he used to get money from his parents for his expenses.

Jimmy Shergill wanted to work with Gulzar as an assistant director.

Jimmy Shergill told in an interview with Sushant Sinha that he used to take money from his parents till he got 'Mohabbatein'. The actor revealed that he had received Rs 20,000 for working in Gulzar's 'Maachis'. Jimmy Shergill said that when he heard about Gulzar's plan to make 'Maachis', he approached the legendary filmmaker to get work as an assistant director. The actor recalled how Gulzar had asked him that if he was an actor then why go into direction? On this, Jimmy told him that he had heard that no one gets a break in the industry for 5 or 6 years and he did not want to go back home.

Gulzar gave the script and asked him to choose the role.

After this Gulzar gave the script to Jimmy Shergill and asked about the character of his choice. Jimmy said, "After reading the script, Gulzar asked him, 'Which role do you like?' If you have to do any role, which one would you choose? I said, 'I think I should do Jimmy.' My pet name is Jimmy. I met him as Jasjeet Shergill.

Jimmy Shergill received Rs 20,000 for 'Maachis'.

Jimmy Shergill also recalled how he had to listen to people's taunts because of his small role. A lot of people said things like, 'Are you crazy?' This is a small role. Wait for your time to come." Talking about family support and 'Maachis' fees during the days of struggle, Jimmy Shergill said, "I think it was around Rs 20,000. I was lucky that my family was supporting me. This continued until I got 'Mohabbatein'. Once I got 'Mohabbatein', I gradually reduced taking money from home.

Jimmy Shergill is making headlines these days for his web series 'Strategy: Balakot and Beyond'. The war room drama is directed by Santosh Singh and also stars Lara Dutta, Ashutosh Rana, Ashish Vidyarthi, and many other talented actors. The series premiered on Jio Cinema on April 25, 2024.
