Erik ten Hag fumes at Man Utd players after 'frustrating' Burnley draw

A frustrated Erik ten Hag slammed his Manchester United players for blowing another lead and conceding a late goal to draw 1-1 against Burnley at Old Trafford.

United had put themselves ahead thanks to a second-half strike from Antony and looked on course to secure their second successive

Premier League victory. However, Burnley were gifted the chance to equalise late on as Andre Onana recklessly clattered into an opposition player and gave away a penalty.

Zeki Amdouni stepped up from 12 yards and coolly slotted the ball into the back of the net to seal a share of the spoils. It's a result that damages United's hopes of finishing in the Europa League places, though they still remain in the crucial sixth position, one point above seventh-place Newcastle.

But after the match, Ten Hag hit out at his United players for not getting the job done and securing all three points. He told Sky Sports: "Strong start to the game. Loads of chances then we lost in control in second part of first half. Burnley came back in the game and had some chances.

"Second half was all ours and we are in a winning position and we give the game away at the end. Very frustrated, shouldn't happen. You put yourself in difficult positions. Over many phases of the game we did very good so at the end we have to take the three points and the clean sheet. We gave it away again at the end.

"We put ourselves in a winning position by playing some good football - creating loads of chances and then to give it away in the end in the final minutes it's so unnecessary."

United created enough chances to win the match and were also left frustrated with referee John Brooks and VAR after they were not given a late penalty on Garnacho. Ten Hag lambasted the standard of officiating and believes they have been hard done by in recent weeks.

He added: "Both - bad luck and we are not lucky with the refereeing in recent weeks. We've conceded so many penalties, this one is justified but other ones. If you make [Aaron] Wan-Bissaka in the final a penalty then what is this [Alejandro Garnacho penalty claim]. Where is the consistency?

"We have to look in the mirror. We made a mistake, but you take responsibility and they should understand what it means for a team and for a manager."

After three days in six days - which included that dramatic FA Cup semi-final victory over Coventry - United now have over week to wait for their next match as they travel to Crystal Palace on Monday, May 6.
