Fight against COVID-19: Tripura beats national average, records 68.83% recovery rate

Agartala: With the rise in coronavirus cases in the country, the northeastern state of Tripura has made steady progress in the fight against COVID-19. 

Beating the national average, Tripura has recorded a recovery rate of 68.83 per cent. The national average for recovery is currently 39 per cent. 

As per a report in Indian Express, the state government claimed that 116 patients out of a total 173 have been discharged from isolation. 

Talking to media, Tripura Law Minister Ratan Lal Nath said that Tripura's recovery rate stands at 68.83 per cent while the national average is currently 39 per cent.

On Wednesday, the state recorded four new COVID-19 cases raising the tally to  173.  Ratan Lal Nath said Tripura stands highest in the recovery of COVID-19 patients in the country. 

"With a diagnosing apparatus that is testing 3,773 per million people in the state, COVID-19 positivity rate in the state is 0.33 per cent," Tripura Health Minister Ratan Lal Nath informed. 

The first person tested positive for COVID-19 was a woman who visited Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati in March. Later, Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawan was tested positive. 

Both of them later recovered and were released in April. The state has not witnessed any community transmission including in Dhalai district which was declared 'Red Zone'.

According to government data, Tripura's testing figures are among the highest in Northeast India. The figure is also the highest in the country. 

"Citing the testing figures from Northeastern states, Tripura health minister said 1,105 samples were being tested per million in Assam, less than 500 in Nagaland, 1,637 in Sikkim, 2,435 in Arunachal Pradesh, 237 in Mizoram, 550 in Manipur and 898 in Meghalaya.
