Future bleak for students of derecognised B.Ed colleges

JAIPUR: Chimanpura B.Ed College, whose recognition was withdrawn last year for not following National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE) norms, has been asked by Rajasthan University to transfer second-year students to other colleges.

Expressing concern, principal Dinesh Acharya said they gave admissions to students following a nod from the college education department.

"We had received permission for giving remaining students admission in second year. Now, the university has asked us to shift them to some other college in the middle of the session when students have already started internship and have given exams. It will be really chaotic," said Acharya.

Last year, the recognition of the colleges situated at Chimanpura, Kaladera, Kherwara, Nasirabad and Bhopalgarh was withdrawn as they were found to be violating norms of the NCTE. As per the norms of NCTE, every B.Ed College must have 16 teachers, but none of the colleges fulfilled the requirement. They lacked non-teaching staff, infrastructure and did not have a website as required.

Surprisingly, students who were studying in first year in 2018 when the affiliation was withdrawn, has been granted admission in second year in 2019 in all the five de-recognised colleges instead of shifting them to other recognised colleges. This decision by the government is posing a great danger to the validity of the degree that would be provided to these students in 2020.

Academics in the state are now demanding that similar notices as given to Chimanpura must be issued to other de-recognised colleges.

Jitendra Sharma, retired lecturer from Bhopalgarh B.Ed College, who has even written letter to NCTE regarding the gross misconduct said this was against the norms of the council.
