The name of the group, RIIZE, is a fusion of "RISE," symbolizing growth, and "REALIZE," representing a team that grows together to realize dreams.

Shotaro and Sungchan, who debuted as part of SM Entertainment's boy group NCT in October 2020, were joined by Shohei, Eunseok, and Seunghan when they were introduced as members of the SM Rookies lineup on July 1, 2022. In November 2022, it was revealed that they would be starring in the reality show "Welcome to NCT Universe," which is hosted by Shotaro and Sungchan.
