German ambassador praises Nagpur Metro work

Nagpur: German ambassador Walter Lindner has praised the work of Nagpur Metro after reviewing the progress of the project. A German delegation, including KfW officials, was in the city for this purpose.

Lindner tweeted “Metro Nagpur: 70% completed, finished end 2020, less traffic and CO2, MahaMetro and MD Brijesh Dixit great partner and implementer, 500 million Euros German loan, 42 kilometre line with 42 stations and 70 coaches, electric bus services, bicycle infrastructure: that’s how the future smart cities look like.”


He also tweeted “Think this Amsterdam, Greenwich Village or Berlin Kreuzberg? This is a young start-up in India’s Nagpur: Bounce cycles by Ashish; bounce bike, enjoy ride, scan & park. Easy! Great for Nagpur Metro users, great for CO2, great for health, great for green mobility.”

The German delegation was told about the multi-modal integration and use of solar energy. Along with this they were informed about the 5D-BIM, paddle operated battery bicycles and automatic fare collection (AFC) system.

The high-level delegation travelled by Metro from Khapri to the Sitabuldi Exchange station. They viewed the beautification work done at Khapri, new airport and Sitabuldi stations. Lindner has appealed to Nagpurians to make maximum possible use of Metro to avoid congested roads.

Director (project) Mahesh Kumar, director (finance) S Sivamathan, general manager (administration) Anil Kokate, general manager (operation and maintenance) Sudhakar Urade and others were present during the inspection.
