Goa CM Pramod Sawant-led coalition government wins trust vote

PANAJI: The BJP-led coalition government of Goa passed the floor test comfortably on Wed-nesday by 20 votes against 15. In the 40-member Goa assembly, which has been reduced to 36, CM Pramod Sawant’s government required the support of only 19 MLAs to prove its majority.

Before the crucial trust vote, the chief minister held a cabinet meeting.



The strength of the assembly is reduced to 36 after the Panaji and Mapusa seats fell vacant owing to the death of Manohar Parrikar and D' Souza and after two Congress MLAs Dayanand Sopte and Subhash Shirodkar quit the Congress party and joined the BJP.

Sawant on Tuesday took oath as the chief minister of the state.

BJP government is supported by Goa Forward Party , Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and Independent MLAs.

The coalition has 12 BJP MLAs, three each belong to Goa Forward Party and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and three independents.

House condoled the death of former chief minister Manohar Parrikar.
