Goa: Pernem tunnel wall collapse paralyzes KR train traffic

MARGAO: The tunnel lined wall inside the Pernem tunnel collapsed in the wee hours of Thursday following which train traffic along the Konkan Railway route was paralysed.


The incident occured between Madure and Pernem railway stations of the Karwar region at 2.50 am, Konkan Railway officials said.

A press note by Konkan Railway said that the traffic in this section has been suspended till further advice, though no casualties or injuries were reported. Konkan Railway officials rushed to the site for early restoration of the route.

Several trains along the KR route were diverted along the South Western Railway route via Londa.

On Wednesday, a landslide that occurred between Caranzol and Castlerock had caused disruption of train movement along the SWR route. The track was cleared and traffic restored by Wednesday afternoon.
