Govt hospitals now earmark beds for heat stroke cases

Coimbatore: The district administration has earmarked beds exclusively for heat stroke cases at 12 government hospitals in the region.

Pointing out that the mercury had been on the rise this summer, an official source said the district collector had urged the government hospitals to allocate at least four to five beds to provide immediate medical assistance to the people suffering heat stroke.

District health joint director Rajagopal said a separate ward with five beds had been set up at bigger facilities such as the Pollachi and Mettupalayam government hospitals. “In the remaining hospitals, at least five beds have been reserved for heat stroke cases. Patients with heat-related illness will be provided adequate medical support.”

He said no case of heat stroke was reported in the district till date. “We have, however, treated a few cases with dehydration, allergies and tiredness.”
