Gujarat records 371 Covid-19 cases, 24 deaths in 24 hours

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat recorded 371 positive cases of Covid-19 and 24 deaths in 24 hours ending 5 pm on Thursday. The state recorded dip in single-day cases after two consecutive days of recording 395-plus cases.


With the new cases, Gujarat's total case tally is reached to 12,910 and death toll at 773.

Jayanti Ravi, principal secretary (health & family welfare), said that with 269 Covid-19 patients discharged on Thursday, the total has reached to 5488.

"Discharge rate of Gujarat has improved to 42.5%. Discharge rate for Surat and Vadodara is 67% and 62% respectively," said Ravi. "Even the centres which have not recorded very high cases are also recording good recovery rate - in Bhavnagar , 73% have got recovered whereas in Rajkot, the rate is 67%."

On Thursday, Gujarat recorded cases from 20 out of its 33 districts. Ahmedabad led the tally with 233 cases, followed by 34 in Surat, 24 in Vadodara, 13 in Mehsana and 11 in Banaskantha. Out of 24 deaths, 17 are recorded in Ahmedabad, followed by 3 in Vadodara and one each in Surat, Anand, Kheda and Mehsana.

Out of 12,910 total positive patients in Gujarat, 773 have died, 5488 have got discharged and 6649 are either hospitalized or under isolation. Out of those under hospitalization, 52 are on ventilator.

Ravi said that they have started providing Ayurvedic and Homoeopathic medicines to the patients who were willing to continue the alternative medicines along with allopathic treatment to boost their immunity. "Majority of these hospitals are in Ahmedabad," said Ravi. Ahmedabad is one of the epicentres of viral infection in India and has recorded maximum cases and deaths from Gujarat.
