Haryana breathes easy, but AQI in seven cities still very poor

KARNAL: Even after an overall improvement in air quality on Saturday, Haryana’s seven cities remained in the very poor bracket.


The air quality index (AQI) of six cities emerged in poor category, as per the 4pm bulletin of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

Gurgaon was the most polluted with AQI at 360, which falls in very poor category. It was followed by Faridabad (358), Jind (329), Rohtak (326), Manesar (325), Ballabgarh (366) and Bahadurgarh (302).

The AQI was in poor category in Panipat (292), Bhiwani (288), Hisar (286), Yamunagar (241), Sonipat (212) and Karnal (212).

Meanwhile in Delhi, AQI was also recorded in the very poor category (357), while Chandigarh came in the moderate group at 142.

AQI between 201 and 300 is considered poor, 301-400 very poor and 401-500 severe. Above 500, it falls in the severe plus category.

According to the agriculture department, most of the paddy area has been harvested in the state. As many as 65 fire incidents were recorded on Saturday by the Haryana State Remote Sensing Centre. The total number of field fires has reached 6,194 since September 25 in the state.

Kaithal topped with 1,223 stubble burning cases, followed by Fatehabad (1156), Karnal (1107), Kurushetra (721), Jind (562), Ambala (369), Sirsa (345), Yamunanagar (261) and Palwal (204).
