Healthy 33p food that 'curbs appetite and aids weight loss', according to nutritionist

A nutritionist has sung the praises of a 33p food item that's not only a bargain but also packs a punch in curbing appetite and aiding weight loss.

The secret weapon? Greek yoghurt. Guna Bilande, a nutrition expert at Weight Loss Riga who supports bariatric patients, is combining her scientific know-how with hands-on experience to spotlight the incredible benefits of incorporating Greek yoghurt into your daily grub.

"Greek yoghurt is a nutritional powerhouse," she said. "Packed with protein, probiotics and essential nutrients, it possesses a unique combination of properties that make it a game-changer for weight management."

Guna delved into the nitty-gritty of why Greek yoghurt is such a formidable ally in the fight against flab, referencing a pivotal study from 2021. This research delved into dairy's effects on post-meal blood sugar levels and hunger pangs, unearthing solid proof of Greek yoghurt's role in keeping appetite at bay, reports Gloucestershire Live.

"The findings of this study are nothing short of remarkable," Guna remarked. "Greek yoghurt, when consumed alongside carbohydrates, has been shown to significantly reduce post-meal glycemia and curb appetite, thanks to its high protein content."

What really makes Greek yoghurt stand out in the crowded dairy aisle? Guna pointed out its unmatched versatility and ability to keep you feeling full. Greek yoghurt is a tasty snack that can boost feelings of fullness for hours, a nutritionist has claimed. Guna, who also has a background in health psychology, said: "Protein is the key," she said. "Greek yoghurt's rich protein content not only enhances feelings of fullness and satiety but also helps regulate appetite throughout the day."

Greek yoghurt can be consumed on its own or added to other meals, she said. "Start by incorporating a modest serving of Greek yoghurt, roughly 150 to 200 grams, into your daily meals. Experiment with different flavour combinations and recipes to keep things exciting and sustainable. Over time, the benefits will become apparent, as cravings diminish, and weight loss becomes more achievable."

Guna added: "For example, you can use Greek yoghurt as a base for salad dressings, dips, and spreads, or simply enjoy it in its natural state. The possibilities are endless!" Greek yoghurt contains a rich protein content for just 72 calories per serving. A 500g tub is around £1.10 in supermarkets, working out at 33p per serving.
