Heeramandi Star Richa Chadha On Kangana Ranaut Contesting LS Polls 2024: Autocracy And Democracy...| Exclusive

Richa Chadha is not one to mince words. The actress, who is known to speak her mind, will soon be seen in the maverick filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s OTT debut, Netflix’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Ahead of the premiere of the series, she recently sat down for a chat on all things Heeramandi and a little segment on politics.

Richa, who is mostly known for her playing roles with a gray shade on celluloid believes her avatar is Heeramandi is far removed from what the audience has seen her as till now.

In an exclusive interaction with Zoom, Richa shared her thoughts on her Panga co-star Kangana Ranaut entering politics. Commenting on Kangana Ranaut’s foray into politics, Richa said, “All the best to whoever from the acting field wants to join politics. but I have no such aspirations.”

The Heeramandi actress went on to add, “I think it is the imperative duty of every citizen in a democracy to be able to voice their opinion. If you are taking my vote, if you are taking my taxes on everything, be it direct and indirect taxes - from GST, VAT, road tax and even entertainment tax, I should be allowed to speak my mind.”

Richa opined, “And that is the key difference between autocracy and democracy.”

“While I am opinionated, I really feel like in a democracy, I should be able to voice my opinion as a citizen without the accusations that ‘oh she is doing it because she wants to join politics’,” Richa added.

“I am such a good actor, what a good loss it would be to the world of acting if I joined politics,” Richa stated with a laughter, before adding as a cautionary footnote, “Although they are always acting, and perhaps are better actors than us, but still..:”

For the unversed, Kangana Ranaut, a well-known Bollywood actress, is stepping into politics by contesting as the BJP candidate from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. Her nomination has stirred both backing and dissent within the party, adding excitement to the upcoming electoral contest.

Meanwhile, Richa Chadha will be seen alongside Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Fardeen Khan, Sekhar Suman and others in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi, debuting on Netflix on May 1.
