Ranchi, April 30, 2025 — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast cloudy skies and rainfall across several parts of Jharkhand through May 4, with thunderstorms and gusty winds likely until May 2. The department has issued a Yellow Alert, urging residents to stay cautious of lightning and winds reaching speeds of 40–50 km/h.

Thunderstorms, Lightning, and Wind Gusts Likely Until May 2

According to the bulletin released by the IMD on Wednesday, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds may affect multiple districts in the state until Thursday, May 2. The weather activity is being influenced by regional atmospheric instability and localized moisture build-up. The alert warns of temporary disruptions in outdoor activities and advises the public to remain indoors during stormy conditions.

Mixed Weather in Ranchi and Surrounding Areas

Despite the forecast, the capital Ranchi and its nearby regions have been witnessing clear skies since Tuesday. The weather remains dry and sunny during the day, with cooler conditions prevailing at night, giving residents a brief respite before potential rainfall resumes.

On Wednesday, Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of 33°C, with other notable readings across the state including:

  • Jamshedpur: 32.6°C

  • Daltonganj: 37.4°C

  • Bokaro: 33.1°C

  • Chaibasa: 34.4°C

Severe Heat Anticipated in Mid-May

Looking ahead, the IMD has warned of intense heatwave conditions likely to develop across Jharkhand in the second week of May, especially in central and western regions of the state. Temperatures are expected to cross 40°C, posing health risks and increasing demand for heat precautions.

Advisory for Residents and Farmers

The IMD has urged residents, farmers, and travelers to remain alert and follow safety precautions:

  • Avoid open areas during thunderstorms or lightning

  • Postpone outdoor or agricultural activities during high wind warnings

  • Stay hydrated and protect against potential heat exposure in early May

With pre-monsoon weather patterns beginning to affect eastern India, the state is likely to witness frequent weather shifts, making real-time updates essential.
