Hotels offer discounts, education institutes provide services on poll day

Raipur: Many commercial, industrial, educational and medical institutions, entertainment venues, and organizations in the city are gearing up to celebrate the Lok Sabha elections 2024 by observing May 7 as a national festival. These institutions have announced several offers for voters, which can be availed directly by showing the ink mark on the finger.

Many such institutions are coming forward to provide facilities like cold water and lemonade around the polling centres in view of the scorching summer.

Even school students are contributing to the process by actively participating as polling booth assistants to assist the disabled and elderly voters, said an official release.

More than 100 institutions have met with the collector and district election officer Dr. Gaurav Kumar Singh to present their proposals in writing. Recognizing the election as a festival of the nation, citizens and several major institutions in Raipur have come forward to provide voluntary concessions at their level.

As part of this initiative, some hotel groups have announced a heavy discounts on food bills from May 7 to 10.

In Birgaon, educational institutions have also proposed their services at various polling centres by providing lemonade, cold water, and sherbet for voters at three polling centres here. One school has made arrangements for polling teams like providing coolers while one will collaborate with a cancer hospital to provide water and lemonade at nine booths, along with making necessary arrangements for polling staff. Another school has assigned NSS cadets as polling booth assistants at three polling centres while a Gudhiyari school will provide coolers and necessary arrangements for voters at two booths. Private college staff also jumped the bandwagon and will ensure all necessary facilities for polling staff and voters throughout the day.

Dozens of institutions are coming forward daily to participate in democratic process by providing their proposals through the DEO, which has increased enthusiasm among the voters. Participation from all sections of society is increasing for voting as a national festival, and voting in Raipur willbegin from 7am to 6 pm on May 7, added the release.
