House guard of Vaishali SP robbed, two arrested

PATNA: A police constable deputed at Vaishali SP’s official residence at Hajipur was robbed of his mobile phone, cash and other belongings around 10pm on Monday.

The incident took place on the SDO Road when Daulat Kumar was returning to the police lines after his duty at the SP’s residence. The SDO Road houses the residences of top officials, including the DM, SP, SDO and the district and sessions judge.

The robbers, stated to be five in number, waylaid Daulat and snatched his wallet containing cash and his ID card at gunpoint while threatening him with dire consequences. Daulat first informed the SP’s confidential section staff, who reported the matter to the Town police station.

Town police station SHO Anjani Kumar immediately conducted a raid on Mobarak Ali Road. On seeing the police, the criminals started firing. The police team led by Anjani returned the fire, causing bullet injuries to one of the robbers, who was identified as Chandan Paswan.

Vaishali SP Jagunatharaddi Jalaraddi told reporters on Tuesday that Chandan and Chhotu Rai were nabbed after an encounter. Chandan suffered bullet injuries in the exchange of fire. However, no policeman was injured in the encounter, he added.

The SP said one country-made pistol, three live and four empty cartridges were seized from their possession. The looted articles belonging to the constable were also seized. “Raids are on to nab the other gang members,” he added.
