How to make iPhone's display less bright in dark for comfortable viewing

Staring at our iPhones late into the night can strain our eyes, especially in low-light conditions like while going to bed. Fortunately, there's a solution: dimming your iPhone screen beyond the standard brightness settings and here’s how to do it.

Do note that going below the brightness level set by Apple isn’t going to be an easy task.
However, with a couple of workarounds, it is possible. All you need to do is follow the steps below:

Reduce white point

  • Open Settings on your iPhone.
  • Select Accessibility.
  • Scroll down and choose Accessibility Shortcut.
  • Tap Reduce White Point and drag it up near the top of the list.
  • Now, triple-click your iPhone's Side button to display the Accessibility Shortcut menu, then tap Reduce White Point.

Your iPhone display will now be dimmer than the standard lowest brightness setting.

Reset white point

To return the white point to its normal level, triple-click the Side button again and tap Reduce White Point to uncheck it.

But doing it manually all the time can be tiring. So, here’s how you can automate it.

  • Open the Shortcuts app and tap the + icon.
  • Type "White Point" in the search field and choose Set White Point when it appears.
  • Tap the blue "Turn" text and choose Toggle from the dropdown menu.
  • After creating the shortcut, select the Automation tab, tap the + icon, and choose Sleep.
  • Select Bedtime Begins and Run Immediately, then choose your custom Set White Point shortcut.
  • Now, your screen's white point will automatically reduce when bedtime starts.
  • Create an additional automation in the Shortcuts app, choosing Waking Up instead of Bedtime Begins.
  • Select your custom Set White Point shortcut.
  • This ensures your screen returns to normal brightness when your bedtime ends.
