'I'm a Sky Sports pundit – I don't get my subscription for free and this is why'

Working for Sky Sports doesn't automatically get you a free subscription, one of their pundits has revealed.

The broadcaster have a whole host of famous faces aiding their coverage of the Premier League and Football League throughout the season, both on matchdays and throughout the week on their 24-hour news channel.

Football fans are used to seeing regulars like Roy Keane, Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville on their TV screens, and they're all tied down to a contract. But that's not the case for all who make punditry appearances, including Stephen Warnock.

The former Liverpool and Aston Villa left-back transitioned to a media career after hanging up his boots in 2018. He's since also worked for the BBC, TNT Sports, DAZN and NBC.

As a result of not being on a long-term deal with Sky, they don't give him the benefits - like a fully paid-for TV and broadband package - that some of his colleagues enjoy, as he explained on the

podcast.

Co-host Jon Parkin asked if he did, with Warnock swiftly replying: "No! Because I work for them, I'm on a non-contract. But if you're on a contract, which is like a Carragher or a Neville, you'll get all the perks and things like that. So no, I have to pay full whack."

EFL journeyman Parkin then questioned: "Even movies and everything?" To which Warnock replied: "Yep, full on. I don't get anything. Do you know what, the funny thing is, I remember speaking to one of the commentators.

"I said 'do you get like perks with working for Sky?' And he was like 'yeah, I get all my phones for about five a quid a month, then I get all the Sky package and things'. I thought 'oh yeah ok so I'll ask about that'. Asked about it and they just came back and went 'no, you don't qualify for it within your contract'."

The panel reckoned he should be getting some sort of discount for his regular work on Sky Sports News, and he added: "You'd think so wouldn't you."
