In Ambala, 265 break traffic rules; 1 dies in bike collision

AMBALA: On Holi , the city police issued penalties to as many as 265 persons for various traffic violations including overspeeding and drunken drinking.


Ambala traffic in-charge Chander Prakash said, “Most of the challans have been issued for overspeeding and drunken driving. During Holi celebrations in the city, we had made ample arrangements to maintain law and order.”


Meanwhile, a city resident was killed in a collision between two-wheelers in Ambala Cantonment on Thursday. As per the information, five persons were riding on two separate two-wheelers — three on one vehicle and two on the other. None of them was wearing a helmet. The police have registered a case in the matter.

Gautam of Balmiki Basti stated in his complaint that on March 21, one Mangu Rana of Babiyal was tripleriding and going at high speed when he hit the complainant’s motorcycle near Baba Balak Nath temple. While Gautam sustained injuries in the accident, his friend Vikram alias Vicky died on the spot. The police have booked the accused under sections 279 (rash driving, riding), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code. Ambala Cantonment SHO Suresh Kumar said all the five persons were riding without helmets.
