Infopark Phase II road devpt project remains a non-starter

Kochi: Though the revenue department issued 11(1) notification for acquiring of 0.167 hectares of land for the construction of a four-lane road connecting Infopark Phase I and II a year ago, construction works of the road is getting delayed indefinitely.

The notification was issued in Feb 2023, for acquiring the in Puthancruz village of Kunnathunadu taluk.

Demand for the development of the road to Infopark Phase II has been pending since long. In Phase II, spread across 125 acres, 50 IT and ITES companies are functioning with around 5,000 employees. The number of employees is expected to increase to more than 50,000 once the Phase II becomes fully functional. The road development is expected to bring in more development to the park.

At present there is only a narrow road to Phase II of the IT park and it causes difficulties to hundreds of visitors to the park.

Social impact assessment (SIA) for the land acquisition, which was conducted by Bharata Mata School of Social Work, has already shown green signal for the project. The report says the project would directly affect only four families and no one would be evacuated for the project.

Progressive Techies, a collective of Infopark IT employees, has already approached the chief minister demanding the development of the road.
