ITV Britain's Got Talent fans rage over Bruno Tonioli's antics on show

Britain's Got Talent fans have taken issue with Bruno Tonioli as a judge on the show after he put through a comedian - but appeared to not understand his jokes.

Comedian Darren Watson returned to the ITV show after he was rejected last year and attempted to wow the judges with his one-liners - but not all of the panel grasped the funny aspect of his act.

He started his routine with a joke saying: "I'm not having much luck with dating, the only dates I get are PC updates." But his joke was met with silence. However, he soon won the judges over and the crowd, leaving them in stitches.

And while Simon Cowell is known for being hard to win over, he praised Darren and told him: "It's like you bought a thousand Christmas crackers and opened them up and read them to us as fast as possible. That's what made it so funny. The best acts are people who aren't professional but dream of doing something else."

He also went as far as to tell him he was pleased he made the brave decision to return after "bottling" it last year. The plumber received four yeses from the judges but viewers were left amazed that Bruno put him through, as he didn't appear to understand the jokes.

One person wrote: "He needs to slow down and he’d be good. He’s just emphasised why Bruno, much as I love him, shouldn’t be a judge. No way should he be deciding on the future opportunities of entertainers, neither should Alesha, tbh." Another said: "Bruno after every joke: [confused emojis]. Bruno after Simon loved it: 'YES!'" A third added: "Why did Bruno say yes?? He didn't get any of the jokes!?" And a fourth viewer commented: "Bruno saying 'yes' to the pun guy without understanding a single joke."

Bruno replaced Little Britain star David Walliams last year after the comedian left the show weeks after recordings were leaked where he made inappropriate references about one woman and called a pensioner a 'c***' during filming for Britain's Got Talent back in 2020.

However, following the launch of last years series, it looked as though fans were left divided over Bruno's inclusion on the panel. Taking to X, also known as Twitter, fans confessed that the show was not the same without David. One fan wrote: "Not watching #BGT because David Walliams is not there. Without him showing off and being a silly bugger there's no point." Another said: "David Walliams is missed..." A third commented: "Anyone else miss David Walliams?"

But others were pleased as punch to see Bruno on the show. One person said: "So much better without David." And a second added: "Sorry but Bruno Tonioli is so much better than David Walliams." Meanwhile a third agreed: "It’s a lot better without David Walliams I must say. He always tried to make it about him, and would say yes to everything. The new series is refreshing. It may have won be back… we’ll see!"

The Mirror has contacted Bruno and ITV for a comment.
