Jailer's laxity led to murder of dreaded don Prem Prakash in Baghpat jail

LUCKNOW: Almost a year after dreaded don Prem Prakash alias Munna Bajrangi was shot dead inside the Baghpat jail, the government inquiry report says that jailer Uday Pratap Singh’s laxity in maintaining law and order inside the premises led to the murder on Friday.

On July 9, Bajrangi was shot dead by Sunil Rathi, another gangster lodged in Baghpat prison.

The police had claimed that Rathi had sprayed bullets on the temple of Bajrangi for a “Chubby” barb.

Later the four jail officials including the jailer were suspended by the administration for lapses. A probe of the entire incident was also given to jail superintendent of Kanpur.

On Friday, principal secretary (home) Arvind Kumar said that jailer Uday Pratap Singh was dismissed from the service on account of his laxity in maintaining law and order inside the jail premises.

The report has found that Uday Pratap Singh failed to keep proper vigilance which led to sneaking of a pistol into barrack of Sunil Rathi, while no proper checking was done of those coming to meet the under trails from outside. The probe has also revealed that jailer knew the sensitivity of Rathi and Bajrangi lodged in the jail yet failed to monitor them properly.
