Jamshedpur transport office puts in extra hours

After the Jharkhand government decided to go slow on the new traffic fines, the East Singhbhum district transport office has decided to extend all help to driving-license applicants. As per the new decision, the transport office would remain open from 7am to 7pm on all working days (Monday to Saturday).

Officials in the transport department said the office would remain closed on September 17 for Vishwakarma Puja.

From Saturday, the new office timings became effective. Officials said as many 807 driving licenses were issued on the same day from the office. Sources said on Saturday, 310 applicants got their driving licenses renewed, 395 got learning licenses and 102 got fresh licenses.

Rajnish Kumar, an official at the district transport office, informed that this timing would continue till the rush for driving licence eases.

Sources said after the new fines came into force on September 1, applications for driving licences surged in all road transport offices in Jharkhand. Seeing the rush, East Singhbhum DTO Dinesh Ranjan decided to have the new timings to help the applicants.

Meanwhile, the decision taken by the Raghubar Das government to postpone the implementation of the new fine by three months has been welcomed by the opposition and several other organisations. State Congress president Rameshwar Oraon, who was in Steel City, welcomed the decision taken by the BJP-led government in the state.
