Jannat-e-Kashmir: Fresh Snow In The Valley Has Turned Kashmir Into Winter Wonderland

Fresh snowfall in Kashmir has officially marked the start of 2019's last season here. Locals woke up to the beautiful sight of the valley draped in fresh layer of snow. According to reports, Srinagar has received its first snowfall of the season with mercury dropping to 2 degrees!

The snowfall also affected road and air transport in the city.

As the valley was experiencing snow, the plains were receiving rains. Authorities have shut the Mughal Road in Rajouri following snowfall in higher reaches of the Pir Panjal mountains.

The picturesque mountains and the pearl white blanket of ice make it look more beautiful than before. But the snowfall has also made life difficult for people. It has forced people to stay indoors, road links have snapped and flight operations have been disrupted. Flight operations were also disrupted at the Srinagar airport due to poor visibility amid heavy snowfall.

"Snowfall was witnessed in higher reaches of Kashmir valley including Gulmarg and Sonamarg in the wee hours today (Wednesday) while the city and other plains were lashed by rainfall," an official of the Met department said.

Apart from the valley, some areas of Himachal Pradesh like Solang Nullah in Kullu district near Manali, Churdhar in Sirmaur district, Gulba, Koksar in Lahul and Spiti, also received fresh snowfall.

Authorities have closed National Highway 305 for commuters after snowfall in Jalori Pass in Kullu.

Experts have also said that after snowfall and, rains in the plain, north India will have get much-needed relief from pollution, especially Delhi. However, after the scrapping of Section 370 locals are wondering if they'll see enough tourists this year.

Last year, Niagara Falls were simply majestic. Parts of the world-famous Falls had frozen over and it reminded us of the 2013 Disney movie Frozen. However, it did nothing to dampen the spirits of people who continued to pour in to watch the majestic Niagara Falls.
