Jhajjar: Elderly villagers to guard banks in rural areas
CHANDIGARH: Police have devised a plan to rope in elderly villagers to prevent bank robberies in the rural areas of Jhajjar district .
According to the police, a group of villagers will be given space outside banks in their villages where they can spend time.
It was Jhajjr SP Ashok Kumar's idea, who claimed that this could work as a deterrent.
The SP claimed to have implemented this tactic in Jind district as well.
"We had a robbery in the outer area of the district there. We experimented this and have not heard of any such crime so far. Even the bank managers too are following this," said Ashok Kumar.
Rural branches usually have only two to four employees. A group of villagers sitting outside the bank can give them a sense of security. Since in most of the cases, the people involved in crime are from the same or nearby villages, hence this work as deterrent, added Ashok Kumar.
