Ahmad Hasan had left his home in Om Purwa, Chakeri on August 2, and had remained incommunicado since then.

His brother Tanzeem and other family members had misidentified a body found in an orphanage under Colonelganj police station on August 5. They then conducted his funeral at the burial ground the same day after postmortem and other police formalities. However, Ahmad returned home in good health three days ago and was shocked to learn that he was believed be dead and that his funeral was held.

“We were startled when my brother Ahmad whose body we presumed to have buried on August 5, arrived home at 11 pm on Friday. He was also shocked to hear from us that the family had conducted his funeral as per religious rites,” said Tanzeem. He further said that they had registered a missing complaint on August 5 at Chakeri police station. “On the same day, we were informed that Colonelganj police had found an unidentified body. Parts of the body were partially burnt, but it looked similar to that of our brother’s body. Thus we identified it,” he added.

Tanzeem said that Ahmad, after returning home, told investigators that he had left the city after quarrelling with his wife over an issue on August 2.

Meanwhile, police had launched a probe to find out the relatives of the man whose funeral was held on August 5.

“We will now get the DNA test of the buried body done,” said SP (west) Anil Kumar.
